Because Election Day Calls for a Drink: Meet the Kalimotxo

Election Day is here, and if you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or like you could use a little break from refreshing your news feed… you’re definitely not alone. I have a ridiculously simple cocktail to help take the edge off. Meet the Kalimotxo (pronounced ca-lee-mo-cho) — a comforting combo of red wine, Coke, and a lemon wedge. Yep, you read that right - three simple ingredients.


It sounds a bit wild, I know. Red wine + Coke might seem like an unhinged TikTok soda experiment gone rogue, but trust me, it just works. With only three ingredients, it’s super easy to make, and while it might not solve all our problems, it’s at least one little moment of calm.

Kalimotxo Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients:


• 1 part Red Wine (the cheap stuff is perfect here)

• 1 part Coke 

• A slice of lemon


How to Make It:


1. Fill a glass with ice.

2. Pour in equal parts red wine and cola.

3. Stir, add a slice of lemon, and sip away.


That’s it. No blender, no shaker—just a glass, some ice, and a little stir. If anyone raises an eyebrow at your wine and cola combo, just tell them it’s a Spanish classic. Very legit.
